Dr. Harry J. Aponte I am eternally grateful for this 30- week culmination of my Person of The Therapist (POTT) Mentorship and Training experience! During this 30- week POTT experience we train Drexel University Master of Family Therapy students to identify their signature childhood themes. We then ask students to critically examine the pro’ and con’s of their signature theme. Students are then asked to evaluate how their signature theme impacts their interpersonal relationships and clinical work in both positive and negative ways. Students are then asked to draw upon all of who they are while doing therapy and to use it to provide an actual experience for the client in the therapy room. While this experience takes place, clinicians are building the therapeutic relationship, assessing clients, and delivering in the present moment interventions.
To effectively train students, I asked Dr. Aponte if he could take me through this experience. I embarked on this journey of deep discovery along with Dr. Aponte and a cohort of 9 Master in Family Therapy students. What a life changing experience both personally and professionally! I am very grateful for the students who allowed me into their world. They allowed me to draw upon all of who I am to deliver in the present moment insight and feedback. Dr. Aponte, the cohort of students, and I all agree that we have witnessed a life changing experience that will sharpen our ability to impact our clients in meaningful ways. Thank you for your dedication and commitment Dr. Aponte! You will always have a special place in my heart!
